ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention can be applied to low bit-rate vocoders comprising predictive filters to encode samples of the speech signal. It consists in extracting the peak values of the samples of the prediction error of the predictive filters, and in tracking the extracted peak values to detect the variations as well as the stable zones of the speech signal.
