A B S T R A C T METHOD AND DEVICE FOR THE ELIMINATION OF CARBON-CONTAINING FLY-ASH FROM A GAS Hot crude synthesis gas is freed from fly-ash in a cyclone. The separated ash is contacted with a steam/oxygen mixture which causes non-converted coal in the ash to burn, the ash being melted. The molten ash drops down into a water bath and solidifies, forming solid ash granules which are dumped. An advantage of the process is that non-converted coal contained in the ash may be partially combusted, thereby increasing the yield of synthesis gas.
