In accordance with the present method for preparing an elastomeric silicone foam, an inert gas is injected under superatmospheric pressure during or after the merging of a silanol-containing organopolysiloxane that is liquid at room temperature, an organohydrogenpolysiloxane that is liquid at room temperature, and a hydrosilation catalyst, and the merging step is followed by mechanical mixing in an enclosed chamber, at which time the mixture is ejected into the atmosphere. Completion of cure with simultaneous evolution of hydrogen occur under atmospheric pressure with the reactive ingredients and the inert gas all present in a homogeneously microdispersed/mixed state. The present method stabilizes the cells formed by the hydrogen and makes possible the development of a large quantity of cells of uniform size and uniform distribution, resulting in a high- expansion ratio foam.
Selon cette méthode de préparation d'une mousse élastomère silicone, un gaz inerte est injecté sous pression, supérieure à la pression atmosphérique, avant ou après la mise en contact d'un organopolysiloxane contenant un silanol, liquide à la température ambiante, d'un organohydrogénopolysiloxane, liquide à la température ambiante, et d'un catalyseur d'hydrosilation. Cette étape de mise en contact est suivie d'un mélange mécanique dans un récipent clos, après quoi le mélange est éjecté dans l'atmosphère. L'achèvement du durcissement, accompagné d'une émission d'hydrogène, a lieu à pression atmosphérique, tous les ingrédients actifs, ainsi que le gaz inerte, étant présents sous forme de microdispersion/mélange homogène. Cette méthode permet de stabiliser les cellules formées par l'hydrogène et rend possible la production de grandes quantités de cellules de taille et de distribution uniformes, permettant d'obtenir des mousses possédant des taux d'expansion importants.
