The present invention relates to a method and to a device for draining liquid coating metal, at the outlet of a tempering metal coating tank, from the two sides of a longitudinally continuously running steel strip. The method of the invention particularly comprises transferring the strip coated with liquid coating metal, as it runs at the tank outlet, from a region not subjected to a magnetic field to another region subjected to a static magnetic field generated between the poles of magnetic members arranged opposite each other on either side of the strip and having field lines, or at least a main shell of said field lines, intersecting with said strip over at least one minimum longitudinal extent so that the liquid coating metal is correlatively subjected to a magnetic field variation generating on said liquid metal a force opposite to the running direction thereof with the strip. Due to the low field variation, this magnetic braking effect generates little Foucault current in the strip. The power radiated in order to reach an efficient draining effect of the liquid film is thus very low and the heating of the strip is very advantageously negligible, amongst other advantages.
La présente invention décrit une méthode et un dispositif d' essorage de métal liquide de revêtement en sortie d'un bac de revêtement métallique au trempé des deux faces d'une bande d'acier en défilement longitudinal continu. En particulier, la méthode selon l'invention prévoit qu'au cours de défilement en sortie de bac, la bande couverte du métal liquide de revêtement passe d'une région non soumise à un champ magnétique à une autre région soumise à un champ magnétique statique créé entre des pôles d'organes magnétiques placés en vis-à-vis de chaque côté de la bande et dont des lignes de champ, ou du moins une enveloppe principale des dites lignes de champ, présentent une intersection sur au moins une étendue longitudinale minimale avec ladite bande, afin que le métal liquide de revêtement subisse corrélativement une variation de champ magnétique générant sur ledit métal liquide une force s 'opposant à son défilement avec la bande. En raison de la faible variation de champ, cet effet de frein magnétique génère peu de courants de Foucault dans la bande. La puissance dissipée pour atteindre un effet d'essorage efficace du film liquide est donc très réduite et ainsi l' échauffement de la bande est, parmi de plus amples avantages, fort appréciablement négligeable.
