ABSTRACT The invention relates to a method and a device to produce several circumferentially spaced labelling strips of polyethylene on the surface of steel pipes sheathed with polyethylene, the sheathing being formed by simultaneous extrusion of a tubular foil of ethylene copolymer serving as contact adhesive, and of a tubular polyethylene foil lying over it, using an extruder head with two ring channels. In order to be able to apply coloured labelling strips onto the sheathing in the longitudinal direction during extruding of the tubular contact adhesive and sheath foil, it is proposed that for the sheath foil and the labelling strips polyethylene with certain melting indexes are used, and that the extruder pressure for the sheath foil or the labelling strips is kept at a pressure difference between 10 and 50 bar. The device is essentially characterized by the specific arrangement of the outlet openings for the labelling polyethylene on the outer ring slot.
