ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to a method and apparatus, wherein at least a part of a volume of waste water, having been enriched with calcium by means of addition of lime - in order to inhibit growth of undesired microorganisms - is adapted to be subjected to an anaerobic fermentation, by diluting it with waste water, the calcium content of which has been decreased by precipitating calcium carbonate from waste water wherein Ca(OH)2 and CO2, via Ca(HCO3)2, are in equilibrium with CaCO3, CO2 and H20, by reducing the partial pressure of carbon dioxide.
