ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Ice and snow accumulation on outdoor surfaces is prevented by application thereto of a formulation which consists essentially of 30 to 45 percent by volume of an alkylene glycol, preferably, ethylene or propylene glycol, in water, and about 0.1% by volume of an organic dyestuff containing (-SO3H) sulfonic acid groups, to impart color thereto and to the treated surface. Diminution of the coloration by erosion of the formulation due to melting runoff will indicate the need to reapply the formulation.
