The invention concerns a method whereby an optical signal representing the amount of ionizing light of at least a gas in the proximity of an object is displayed and/or recorded. Said method is characterised in that it consists in: gradually increasing (D¿1?) the voltage (U) between the object and the conductor element up to a final value (U¿1?) wherein the maximum brightness (L¿1?) is observed; determining, as first characteristic value of the object, the value of the voltage (U¿2?) as from which the brightness (L¿2?) is not less than about 10 % of the maximum brightness (L¿1?) and in determining, as second characteristic value of the object, the voltage value as from which the brightness (L¿3?) of the signal is not less than about 90 % of the maximum brightness (L¿1?). The installation comprises a sensor equipped with a flexible membrane defining a volume of confinement for a gas or a gas mixture wherein the ionization occurs.
Dans ce procédé, on visualise et/ou on enregistre un signal optique représentatif de la quantité de lumière d'ionisation d'au moins un gaz au voisinage d'un objet. Ce procédé est caractérisé en ce qu'il consiste à: augmenter progressivement (D¿1?) la tension (U) entre l'objet et l'élément conducteur jusqu'à une valeur finale (U¿1?) où une luminance maximum (L¿1?) est observée; déterminer, comme première valeur caractéristique de l'objet, la valeur de la tension (U¿2?) à partir de laquelle la luminance (L¿2?) du signal est supérieure ou égale à environ 10% de la luminance maximum (L¿1?) et déterminer, comme seconde valeur caractéristique de l'objet, la valeur de la tension à partir de laquelle la luminance (L¿3?) du signal est supérieure ou égale à environ 90% de la luminance maximum (L¿1?). L'installation comprend un capteur équipé d'une membrane souple délimitant un volume de confinement d'un gaz ou mélange gazeux dans lequel a lieu l'ionisation.
