ABSTRACT A method of treating oxidized surfaces but especially metal surfaces using a mixture by which deep entry of porous rust can be achieved and reduction of the oxidation effected deep within the porous structure with substantial capacity to effect total conversion and especially with preferred chemicals, replacement with an insoluble protective coating can be effected. The process limits the need for physical removal of rust and the treatment of rust provides a different mechanism by which subsequent rusting can be reduced in the case of iron and steel and other metals.
