ABSTRACT The method and associated materials for coating objects having a normally impervious surface, such as eggs and the like which includes providing a granular dyeing material and applying the same to the surface of the egg. The method of applying the dye includes the process of shaking the same to the wetted surface of the egg, and in a preferred form of the invention providing a receptacle for retaining the granular dyeing material and introducing the egg therein and thereafter agitating the receptacle such that the granular material comes into contact with the surface of the egg. The dyeing material, in a preferred form of the invention, consists of a dyeing agent combined with an edible carrier material, the combination being carried out in a liquid solution and thereafter being dehydrated.
