Abstract of the Disclosure The invention is used in an optical spectrometer having a monochromator with entrance and exit ports and a grating, and relates to an improved method and means for aligning a focusing mirror so that an optical beam can be easily and accurately focused on the entrance or exit ports of the monochromator or on its grating. The mirror is mounted in a block with bores adapted to receive bushing assemblies each with a plurality of pairs of matching female and male circular spring rings positioned about a shaft for contact in expanded condition with the bore. Conical surfaces of the rings are in wedging contact with each other, each of the rings being split by a slot extending entirely through the wall of the rings longitudinally of the axis. Each of the rings is constructed and arranged for angular, longitudinal and radial movement relative to each other on the shaft when a longitudinal compressive force is exerted on the rings to adjust the longitudinal and radial positions of the male and female rings by expanding the female rings and contracting the male rings.
