ABSTRACT Disclosed is metalworking using a superconducting solenoid magnet energized by a DC current which establishes magnetic flux of sufficient magnitude to form an electrically conductive workpiece moved through the magnetic field either axially with respect to the solenoid magnet or generally perpendicular thereto. Eddy currents induced in the surface of the workpiece displaces the flux lines. The resulting magnetohydrodynamic pressure deforms the workpiece.
