ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Method of processing metal sheets which includes the steps of applying tensile stress to an intermediate region of a sheet of metal by engaging the sheet on opposite sides of the region, deforming the intermediate region of the sheet and removing the tensile stress applied to the sheet. The intermediate region of the sheet may be deformed by embossing and the tensile stress can be applied to the intermediate region of the sheet by forming a bead on opposite sides of the region. The means for processing metal sheets comprises first means including die members for forming beads on opposite sides of a metal sheet, and second means for deforming the intermediate region of the sheet while the stress is applied thereto by the first means.
