An RF roadway toll collection system uses an upstream reader (29) to communicate with a vehicle borne transponder (23) carrying a Smart Card to calculate the toll and debit the Smart Card balance in the amount of the toll payment required. A transaction manager (24) is notified of the toll payment from the upstream reader (29) and notifies a downstream reader (34) of the vehicle identification and payment status. The downstream reader (34) confirms the vehicle identification and payment status and signals if the toll has been paid.

L'invention concerne un système de perception de péages R.F. utilisant un lecteur en amont (29) servant à communiquer avec un répondeur porté par un véhicule (23) muni d'une carte à puce permettant de calculer le péage et de débiter la carte du montant du péage dû. Un gestionnaire de transactions (24) est informé du paiement du péage par le lecteur en amont (29) et informe un lecteur en aval (34) de l'identification du véhicule et du statut du paiement.
