ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to the transmission of data, in particular data obtained at the bottom of a well, to a location where the data can be used or processed, i.e. the top of the well in the particular example. A strip of semi-conductor memories which can be supplied with data by an elec- tric measuring circuit is installed in a drill string. A particular memory can be detached from the strip by explosion, chemical action or melting initiated by an electric signal. The memory, thus detached, is carried to the surface by the flow of drilling mud. The data can then be obtained, without distortion or error, from the memory.
