A method of traffic regulation in a packet communication network involves a token bucket associated with a subscriber. Packets arriving at the regulator are handled in accordance with the token bucket configuration. The method further involves measuring a demand placed on the packet communication network by the subscriber. The token bucket configuration for the subscriber is dynamically adjusted based on the demand. Another method of traffic regulation handles packets that arrive at the regulator in accordance with first and second token bucket configurations. The first token bucket regulates packet rate while the second token bucket regulates data rate. Another method of traffic regulation involves handling packets in accordance with a token bucket configuration, where the amount of tokens to be removed is based on the amount of the flow and is further based on a classification of the flow. Packet-level devices for traffic regulation are also contemplated.
Cette invention concerne un procédé de régulation du trafic au sein d'un réseau de communication par paquets faisant intervenir une corbeille de jetons associée à un abonné. Les paquets qui arrivent au niveau du régulateur sont traités selon la configuration de la corbeille de jetons. Ce procédé consiste en outre à mesurer la demande imposée par l'abonné sur le réseau de communication par paquets. La configuration de la corbeille de jetons est réglée dynamiquement en fonction de la demande. Un autre procédé de régulation du trafic agit sur les paquets entrant dans le régulateur conformément à une première et une seconde configurations de la corbeille de jetons. La première corbeille de jetons régules le débit de paquets alors que la seconde corbeille de jetons agit régule le débit de données. Un autre procédé encore de régulation du trafic consiste à traiter les paquets conformément à la configuration de la corbeille de jetons,, le nombre de jetons à retirer reposant sur le volume ainsi que sur une classification du débit. Sont également présentés des dispositifs fonctionnant par niveaux de paquets pour la régulation du trafic.
