Abstract of Disclosure A method and portable apparatus for monitoring liquid flow in an open sewer or water pipe or conduit. The liquid depth is sensed by conducting a bubble fluid into the liquid from the exterior, bubbling it into the liquid, and sensing the static pressure of the overlying liquid thereagainst. The sensed pressure is interpreted as depth of liquid and the flow determined from a known depth-to-flow relationship for the site being monitored. The portable apparatus is provided with flexible collar- like means adapted to lie within the pipe or conduit and to be expanded to increased diameter, into contact with the inside wall thereof for frictional retention there- against and to be contracted to decreased diameter for removal therefrom. The collar-like means carries sensor means including a bubble outlet for location in the vicin- ity of the flow bed or invert of the pipe or conduit and carries a bubble fluid conductor from the exterior thereto configured to lie closely adjacent the inside wall to mini- mize interference with the flow of liquid.
