ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method for installation and removal of a floor covering on the surface of a floor comprises forming a web of a fabric-like material which has two separable portions secured to one another at a parting plane. One portion of the web is secured to the bottom surfaces of the floor covering. The other portion of the web is secured to the surface of the floor, whereby the floor covering may be removed from the floor by peeling the web apart at the parting plane. A system for removably securing a floor covering on a floor surface comprises a web of fabric-like material which has opposite surfaces, one of which is adapted to be secured to the bottom surface of the floor covering and the other is adapted to be secured to the floor surface for installing the floor covering in an operation position on the floor surface. An internal parting plane is formed in the web between the surfaces to separate the web into two portions. Means is provided for securing the two portions of the web to one another with sufficient strength to prevent unintended separation of the two portions when the floor covering is installed in an operable position on the floor surface. This permits one portion to be peeled from the other portion to provide for intentional removal of the floor covering from the floor surface.
