A hollow partition wall (4) is employed to feed carbon material to an underflow of a carbothermic reduction furnace used to make aluminum. The partition wall (4) divides a low temperature reaction zone (2) where aluminum oxide is reacted with carbon to form aluminum carbide and a high temperature reaction zone (3) where the aluminum carbide and remaining aluminum oxide are reacted to form aluminum and carbon monoxide.

On utilise un mur creux de séparation (4) pour le transport de matière carbonée dans la sousverse d'un four à réduction carbothermique, utilisé pour la production de l'aluminium. Le mur de séparation (4) divise une zone de réaction (2) à basse température dans laquelle l'oxyde d'aluminium réagit au carbone de façon à produire le carbure d'aluminium, et une zone de réaction (3) à température élevée dans laquelle le carbure d'aluminium réagit à l'oxyde d'aluminium résiduel de façon à produire de l'aluminium et du monoxyde de carbone.
