ABSTRACT The invention relates to a process for the determination of ATP concentrations, for instance in ATP-converting reactions, and to a biolumine- scence reagent for use in the process. According to the process, the sample to be assayed is reacted with a bioluminescence reagent including D- luciferin, luciferase, magnesium or certain other metal ions, and one or more competitive inhibitors of the reaction in the form of D-luciferin analogs. The reagent may optionally also include pyrophosphate and/or co- enzyme A. The intensity of light emitted as a result of the reaction is a measure of the ATP-concentration.
