A method and system of improving sensitivity in the demodulation of a received signal over an arbitrary measurement time epoch, the method comprising the steps of: correlating the received signal in a coherent fashion (80); and utilizing a Viterbi phase state keying trellis demodulation with a variable resolution of phase states over 3600 to demodulate the radio frequency phase trajectory of the signal throughout the measurement time epoch (70); and the system comprising a receiver for receiving a direct sequence spread spectrum signal, the receiver comprising: an antenna (10) for receiving the direct sequence spread spectrum signal ; a downconverter (40) for downconverting the received signal, producing a downconverted signal; an analog to digital converter(60) to convert the downconverted signal to a digital signal; a despreader (80) for despreading and coherently correlating the digital signal to a known signal, creating a despread signal; and a processor (70) for applying a Viterbi algorithm to the despread signal.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un système permettant d'améliorer la sensibilité dans la démodulation d'un signal reçu au cours d'une période de temps mesurée arbitrairement. Ce procédé comprend les étapes consistant: à corréler le signal reçu de façon cohérente (80); et à utiliser une démodulation de treillis de chiffrement d'état de phase Viterbi avec une résolution variable des états de phase sur 360 DEG en vue de démoduler la trajectoire de phase de fréquence radio du signal à travers la période de temps mesuré (70). L'invention concerne aussi un système comportant un récepteur permettant de recevoir un signal à spectre étalé en séquence directe, ce récepteur étant constitué: d'une antenne (10) permettant de recevoir le signal à spectre étalé en séquence directe; d'un convertisseur abaisseur de fréquence (40) destiné à abaisser la fréquence du signal reçu et à produire un signal abaissé en fréquence; d'un convertisseur analogique-numérique (60) destiné à convertir le signal abaissé en fréquence en un signal numérique; d'un désétaleur (80) destiné à désétaler et à corréler de façon cohérente le signal numérique à un signal connu, créant ainsi un signal désétalé; et d'un processeur (70) permettant d'appliquer un algorithme de Viterbi au signal désétalé.
