Abnormal regions in volumetric image sets are detected and delineated through the following technique. Noise is suppressed in the original data (102). The background is classified into one or more background classes (104). An exemplar is identified (106). Essentially similar structures throughout the volume are identified (108); a directed clustering technique has been developed for doing so. Quantitative information (lesion volume, shape, etc.) is extracted (110) and output to database.

L'invention concerne une méthode et un système permettant de détecter et de représenter des régions anormales dans des ensembles d'images volumétriques. Ce procédé consiste à éliminer les parasites dans les données de départ (102), à classer l'arrière-plan en une ou plusieurs classes d'arrière-plan (104), à identifier (106) un exemplaire, à définir (108) des structure sensiblement similaires dans le volume à l'aide d'une technique de regroupement dirigé mise au point à cet effet, puis à extraire (110) des informations quantitatives (volume, forme d'une lésion, etc.) et à les transférer dans une base de données.
