A method and system for characterizing a knee joint in terms of its skeletal morphology. A plurality of loci associated with a model of skeletal structure of a knee joint are fitted and used to parameterize positions of the plurality of loci in a given subject and, thereby, to derive parameters of a deformable statistical template. The skeletal morphology is then characterized on the basis of the derived parameters of the deformable statistical template.

La présente invention concerne un procédé et un système de caractérisation d'une articulation en termes de morphologie squelettique. Une pluralité de sites associés au modèle d'une structure squelettique d'articulation du genou sont fixés et utilisés pour paramétrer des positions de cette pluralité de sites chez un sujet donné et, pour calculer ainsi des paramètres d'un modèle statistique déformable. La morphologie squelettique est ensuite caractérisée à partir des paramètres calculés de ce modèle statistique déformable.
