A method and system for coding and decoding information associated with video compression is described. The video sequence is processed in a plurality of frames. Each frame of the plurality of frames is processed in a plurality of macroblocks. A prediction of an original video signal, which is a part of a macroblock, in a current frame, is constructed from the video sequence. A residual signal is formed by subtracting the prediction of the original video signal from the original video signal in the current frame. A transform to the residual signal is applied. A plurality of transform coefficients is quantized. A symbol of at least one syntax element that defines a characteristic of the residual signal is identified. Symbols of the at least one syntax element of a same category are coded together.
Cette invention concerne un procédé et un système permettant de coder et de décoder des informations associées à une compression vidéo. La séquence vidéo est traitée en plusieurs trames. Chacune des multiples trames est traitée en plusieurs macro-blocs. Une prédiction d'un signal vidéo d'origine, lequel fait partie d'un macro-bloc, dans une trame en cours, est établie à partir de la séquence vidéo. Un signal résiduel est formé par soustraction de la prédiction du signal vidéo d'origine du signal vidéo d'origine dans la trame en cours. Une transformée du signal résiduel est appliquée. Plusieurs coefficients de transformées sont quantifiés. Un symbole d'au moins un élément syntaxique qui définie une caractéristique du signal résiduel est identifié. Les symboles dudit élément syntaxique d'une même catégorie sont codés ensemble.
