A method for cooling a natural gas stream (CxHy) and separating the cooled gas stream into various fractions having different boiling points, such as methane, ethane, propane, butane and condensates, comprises: cooling the gas stream (1,2); and separating the cooled gas stream in an inlet separation tank (4); a fractionating column (7) in which a methane lean rich fluid fraction (CH4) is separated from a methane lean fluid fravction (C2+Hz); feeding at least part of the methane enriched fluid fraction from the inlet separation tank (4) into a cyclonic expansion and separation device (8), which preferably has an isentropic efficiency of expansion of at least 80%, such as a supersonic or transonic cyclone; and feeding the methane depleted fluid fraction from the cyclonic expansion and separation device (8) into the fractionating column (7) for further separation.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de refroidir un flux de gaz naturel (CxHy) et de séparer le flux de gaz naturel en diverses fractions possédant divers points d'ébullition, telles que le méthane, l'éthane, le propane, le butane et des condensats et consistant: à refroidir le flux de gaz (1,2); et à séparer le flux de gaz refroidi dans un réservoir de séparation d'admission (4); une colonne de fractionnement (7) dans laquelle une fraction de fluide pauvre-riche en méthane (CH4) étant séparée d'une fraction de fluide pauvre en méthane (C2+Hz); à alimenter au moins une partie de la fraction de fluide enrichie en méthane à partir du réservoir de séparation d'admission (4) dans un dispositif d'expansion et de séparation cyclonique (8) comprenant, de préférence, un rendement isentropique d'expansion d'au moins 80 %, tel qu'un cyclone supersonique ou transonique; et à alimenter la fraction de fluide appauvri en méthane du dispositif d'expansion et de séparation cyclonique (8) dans la colonne de fractionnement (7), aux fins de séparation ultérieure.
