Abstract A method of cutting-off an end portion of a board blank, the edges of which had been trimmed only as far as to the end portion, where the total length of the board blank and the length of the end portion are stored in a computer, is applied by means of a system (Fig. 1), which comprises a conveying path (1) with conveyor rollers (3,4) for conveying the board blank. In a sequence along the conveying path photoelectric cell means (35-37), a positioning pair (7,8) with pulse generator (12) and a cutting plane (34) with a saw means to act therein are arranged. The respective distance of the photoelectric cell means (35-37) to the positioning pair (7,8) and the distance of said pair to the cutting plane (34) are stored in said computer, which thereby can direct the positioning device (7,8) to advance the board blank a length sufficient for cutting-off the end portion by said saw means in said cutting plane (34).
