A method and apparatus for detecting ingesta or fecal contamination on an animal carcass using fluorescent spectroscopy is disclosed. The surface of the carcass is illuminated with UV light emissions having a wavelength between about 660 to 680 nm are then detected. The emission of fluorescent light having wavelengths between about 660 to 680 nm is an indication of the presence of ingesta or fecal material on the carcass. The figure is the emission spectra of ingesta and feces of different plant consuming animals excited with 430 nm light.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un système utilisant la spectroscopie par fluorescence pour détecter une contamination fécale ou de l'ingesta dans la carcasse d'un animal de boucherie. La surface de la carcasse est illuminée par émission de rayons ultraviolets dont la longueur d'onde est comprise entre environ 660 et 680 nm. L'émission d'une lumière fluorescente ayant une longueur d'onde comprise entre environ 660 et 680 nm renseigne sur la présence d'ingesta ou de matières fécales sur la carcasse. Le dessin reproduit des spectres d'émission d'ingesta et de fèces de différents animaux herbivores excités par une lumière de 430 nm.
