A system for detecting hidden edges is disclosed. The system comprises a workpiece having a surface and a hidden edge located below the surface. A radiation source moves along the workpiece surface and generates radiation.. A radiation receiver moves along the workpiece surface and receives reflected radiation. A processor coupled to the radiation receiver determines a count rate of the reflected radiation, determines a change of the count rate corresponding to the hidden edge, and associates the change to a position on the workpiece surface. A method for detecting hidden edges is disclosed. Step one calls for providing a workpiece having a surface and a hidden edge located below the surface. Step two provides for directing radiation towards the workpiece surface with a radiation source. At step three, the method calls for receiving reflected radiation with a radiation receiver. Step four calls for determining a count rate of the reflected radiation and a change of the count rate with a processor, where the change corresponds to the hidden edge. The last step provides for associating the change of the count rate with a position on the workpiece surface.
L'invention concerne un système de détection de bords cachés. Ledit système comprend une pièce à usiner pourvue d'une surface et d'un bord caché situé en dessous de la surface. Une source de rayonnements se déplace le long de la surface de la pièce à usiner et génère des rayonnements. Un récepteur de rayonnements se déplace le long de ladite surface et reçoit les rayonnements réfléchis. Un processeur couplé au récepteur de rayonnements détermine un taux de comptage du rayonnement réfléchi, détermine un changement dudit taux correspondant au bord caché, et associe le changement à un emplacement sur la surface de ladite pièce à usiner. Cette invention a également trait à un procédé de détection de bords cachés. La première étape consiste à amener une pièce à usiner pourvue d'une surface et d'un bord caché situé en-dessous de la surface, la deuxième étape à diriger le rayonnement vers ladite surface à l'aide d'une source de rayonnements, la troisième étape à recevoir le rayonnement réfléchi au moyen du récepteur de rayonnements, la quatrième étape à déterminer un taux de comptage du rayonnement réfléchi et un changement de taux de comptage au moyen d'un processeur, le changement correspondant au bord caché. La dernière étape repose sur l'association du changement au taux de comptage à un emplacement sur la surface de la pièce à usiner.
