There is provided a method for determining the in-band noise in agile multichannel Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) optical systems, where the interchannel noise is not representative of the in-band noise in the optical channel. The method relies on the analysis of two observations of the same input optical signal. In the two observations, the linear relationship between the optical signal contribution and the optical noise contribution (i.e. the observed OSNR) is different, which allows the discrimination of the signal and noise contributions in the input optical signal. In a first approach, the two observations are provided by polarization analysis of the input optical signal. In a second, the input optical signal is obtained using two different integration widths.

L'invention concerne un procédé qui permet de déterminer un bruit dans la bande dans des systèmes optiques à multiplexage en longueur d'onde dense ("Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing" ou DWDM) à canaux multiples agiles, dans lesquels le bruit intercanal n'est pas représentatif du bruit dans la bande dans le canal optique. Le procédé de l'invention repose sur l'analyse de deux observations du même signal optique d'entrée. Dans les deux observations, la relation linéaire entre la contribution du signal optique et la contribution du bruit optique (c'est-à-dire le rapport signal-bruit observé) est différente, ce qui permet de distinguer les contributions du signal et du bruit au signal optique d'entrée. Dans une première approche, les deux observations sont obtenues par une analyse par polarisation du signal optique d'entrée. Dans une seconde approche, le signal optique d'entrée est obtenu au moyen de deux largeurs d'intégration différentes.
