A method and a system for determining the state of charge of a rechargeable battery, such as a nickel metal hydride battery, a nickel cadmium battery, etc., are disclosed. The method includes the steps of charging the battery using a substantially constant charge current, measuring the battery temperature, conducting a first measurement of the battery voltage at a time interval t1 from the start of the charging and a second measurement of the battery voltage at a time interval t2 from the first measurement where the first measurement is made after a substantially stable behaviour of the change in the battery voltage during charging is reached (after region 302) and the second measurement is made prior to reaching a substantially unstable behaviour of the change in the battery voltage (prior to region 306).

L'invention concerne un procédé et un système pour déterminer l'état de charge d'une batterie rechargeable, comme une batterie à hydrure métallique de nickel, une batterie cadmium-nickel, etc. Ledit procédé comprend les étapes suivantes: charger la batterie à l'aide d'un courant de charge constant, mesurer la température de la batterie, effectuer une première mesure de la tension de la batterie à un intervalle-temps t1, à partir du début de la charge et une seconde mesure de la tension de la batterie, à un intervalle-temps t2, à partir de la première mesure, où la première mesure est effectuée, après qu'un comportement sensiblement stable du changement de la tension de la batterie pendant la charge ait été atteint (après zone 302) et la seconde mesure est effectuée avant qu'un comportement sensiblement instable du changement de tension de la batterie ait été atteint (avant zone 306).
