The invention relates to estimating the global motion between frames of a motion-compensated inter-frame encoded video sequence, directly from the motion vectors encoded within the frames. For any particular frame, a motion estimation is determined from motion vectors direct from the frame's anchor frame to the frame in question. This motion estimation is then checked against pre-determined criteria, and where the criteria are not met, re-estimation along a different route is performed, using the bi-directional motion vectors contained within B-frames. A panoramic image generating method and system which makes uses of the global motion estimations thus obtained is also described.
L'invention concerne l'estimation du mouvement global entre des trames d'une séquence vidéo codée entre-trames à compensation de mouvement, directement depuis les vecteurs de mouvement codés dans les trames. Pour n'importe quelle trame particulière, une estimation de mouvement est déterminée à partir des vecteurs de mouvement directement depuis la trame d'ancrage de la trame vers la trame en question. Cette estimation de mouvement est ensuite vérifiée avec les critères prédéterminés, et si les critères ne sont pas satisfaits, une nouvelle estimation est effectuée sur un trajet différent, au moyen des vecteurs de mouvement bidirectionnels contenus dans les trames B. L'invention porte aussi sur un procédé et un système de génération d'images panoramiques utilisant les estimations de mouvement global ainsi obtenues.
