A resilient virtual Ethernet ring has nodes interconnected by working and protection paths. If a span fails, the two nodes immediately on either side of the failure are cross-connected to fold the ring. Working-path traffic is cross-connected onto the protection path at the first of the two nodes and is then cross-connected back onto the working path at the second of the two nodes so that traffic always ingresses and egresses the ring from the working path. A traffic originating node, upon determining that transmitted packets are being looped back due to a fault on a primary path, is adapted to switch transmission of data packets from the primary path to a secondary path.
La présente invention concerne un anneau Ethernet résilient virtuel comprenant des nuds interconnectés par des voies de service et de protection. Si un segment échoue, les deux nuds se trouvant immédiatement d'un côté ou de l'autre de l'échec sont interconnectés pour plier l'anneau. Le trafic du chemin de service est interconnecté au chemin de protection sur le premier des deux nuds, puis est interconnecté à nouveau au chemin de service sur le second des deux nuds, de manière à ce que le trafic entre et sorte toujours de l'anneau à partir du chemin de service. Au moment de déterminer que les paquets transmis sont renvoyés en raison d'une défaillance sur le chemin principal, un nud générant du trafic est adapté pour commuter la transmission des paquets de données du chemin principal au chemin secondaire.
