Method and apparatus for characterizing water-in-oil or invert emulsion fluids for use in drilling well bores in hydro-carbon bearing subterranean formations. A fluid stability measurement device is disclosed. The device comprises a reference electrode and a second electrode coupled to an insulating body. A guard electrode is placed in the path between the reference electrode and the second electrode on the surface of the insulating body.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil pour caractériser des fluides de type émulsion eau-dans-huile ou l'inverse destinés à être utilisés pour le forage de puits dans des formations souterraines contenant des hydrocarbures. L'invention concerne un dispositif de mesure de la stabilité du fluide. Le dispositif comprend une électrode de référence et une seconde électrode couplées à un corps isolant. Une électrode de garde est placée sur le trajet entre l'électrode de référence et la seconde électrode sur la surface du corps isolant.
