METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR MODULATING A CARRIER FREQUENCY TO SUPPORT NONDESTRUCTIVE BITWISE ARBITRATION OF A COMMUNICATION MED1UM ABSTRACT OF DISCLOSURE A system for modulating a carrier frequency to support nondestructive bitwise arbitration of a communication medium. The system comprises a first sensor module (104) coupled to a power supply line (106) via a first power line coupling circuit (108). The first sensor module (104) comprises a first micro-controller (210) and a first transceiver (212). The first transceiver (212) includes a first transmitter (214) for converting a digital signal received from the first micro-controller (210) into a first analog signal for transmission over the power supply line (106). The first transmitter (214) includes a first oscillator operating within an allowable frequency deviation to provide a first predetermined onset phase. The system further comprises a second sensor module (104) coupled to the power supply line (106) via a second power line coupling circuit (108). The second sensor module (104) comprises a second micro- controller (210) and a second transceiver (212). The second transceiver (212) includes a second transmitter (214) for converting a digital signal received from the second micro-controller (210) into a second analog signal for transmission over the power supply line (106). The second transmitter (214) includes a second oscillator operating within the allowable frequency deviation to provide a second predetermined onset phase. The second analog signal is different from the first analog signal and the second predetermined onset phase is different from the first predetermined onset phase. The difference between the first predetermined onset phase and the second predetermined onset phase is within a limit.
