A test and diagnostic tool for stored program controlled telecommunications switching systems (11) captures the occur- rence and timing of "events" (17, 18, 19) arising from subscriber actions and from actions which occur within blocks of software in the telecommunication switching system (11). Data related to the captured events (17, 18, 19) as well as an indication of their location are stored in a large buffer memory (25). The stored data is then used to analyze the events (17, 18, 19) for the diagnosis and correction of the cause of the fault as well as to recreate the same sequence and timing of events (17, 18, 19) at a later period in order to test the corrections which have been made to ensure that they eliminate the cause of the fault condition.

Un outil d'essai et de diagnostic pour systèmes de commutation (11) en télécommunication commandés par programme enregistré, détecte l'apparition et le minutage d'"évènements" (17, 18, 19) résultant d'actions d'abonnés et d'actions se produisant dans des blocs de logiciel dans le système de commutation (11) en télécommunication. Les données associées aux évènements détectés (17, 18, 19) ainsi qu'une indication relative à leur emplacement sont stockées dans une grande mémoire tampon (25). Les données mémorisées sont alors utilisées pour l'analyse des évènements (17, 18, 19) pour permettre le diagnostic et la correction de la cause du dérangement ainsi que pour recréer la même séquence et le même minutage des évènements (17, 18, 19) à un moment ultérieur, cela afin de tester les corrections qui ont été faites pour garantir qu'elles éliminent la cause de l'état de dérangement.
