The present invention relates to a method and system for multi-rate lattice vector quantization of a source vector x representing a frame from a source signal to be used, for example, in digital transmission and storage systems. The multi-rate lattice quantization encoding method comprises the steps of associating to x a lattice point y in a unbounded lattice .LAMBDA.; verifying if y is included in a base codebook C derived from the lattice .LAMBDA.; if it is the case then indexing y in C so as to yield quantization indices. if not then extending the base codebook using, for example a Voronoi based extension method, yielding an extended codebook; associating to y a codevector c from the extended codebook, and indexing y in the extended codebook C. The extension technique allows to obtain higher bit rate codebooks from the base codebooks compared to quantization method and system from the prior art.
La présente invention concerne un procédé et un système de quantification vectorielle multi-débit en treillis d'un vecteur source x représentant une trame à partir d'un signal de source à utiliser, par exemple, dans des systèmes de transmission et de stockage numériques. Le procédé de codage de quantification multi-débit en treillis comprend les étapes consistant à associer à x un point de treillis y dans un treillis non délimité .LAMBDA.; à vérifier si y est inclus dans le code de base C dérivé du treillis .LAMBDA.; ensuite, si tel est le cas, à indexer y dans C de manière à obtenir des indices de quantification. Sinon il consiste alors à étendre le code de base à l'aide, par exemple, d'un procédé d'extension fondé sur Voronoi, produisant un code étendu; à associer à y un vecteur de code C provenant du code étendu, et à indexer y dans le code étendu C. La technique d'extension consiste à obtenir des codes à débit supérieur à partir des codes de base comparée au procédé et au système de quantification selon l'état de la technique.
