A method and system for processing geophysical survey data is provided. Gravity gradiometry data is processed by approximating density values of terrain signals to remove contributions of the terrain from the gravity gradiometry data. Initially, a predicted gravity gradient data set for a geographical area is calculated using terrain data with unit density. Next, a mathematical transformation is applied to recorded gravity gradiometer data of the geographical area and the predicted gravity gradiometry data. The transformation divides the data into component sub-functions so that each component function can be processed separately. The component sub-functions are processed to estimate densities of the geographical area. Then, using all the estimated densities, gravity gradients due to all of the terrain can be calculated, and subtracted from the recorder gravity gradient signals to reveal gravity gradients due to subsurface masses, for example.
L'invention porte sur un procédé et un système de traitement de données de prospection géophysique. On traite des données de gradiométrie gravitationnelle en calculant de manière approximative les valeurs de densité de signaux de terrain afin de soustraire la contribution du terrain des données de gradiométrie gravitationnelle. On commence par calculer un ensemble de données de gradients de gravité prédits pour une zone géographique en utilisant des données de terrain et une densité unitaire. On applique ensuite une transformation mathématique à des données de gradiomètre gravitationnel enregistrées correspondant à la zone géographique et aux données de gradiométrie gravitationnelle prédites. La transformation divise les données en des sous-fonctions composantes de manière que chaque fonction composante peut être traitée séparément. On traite les sous-fonctions composantes afin d'estimer les densités de la zone géographique. On peut alors calculer, en utilisant toutes les densités estimées, tous les gradients de gravité dus à la totalité du terrain et on peut soustraire ces derniers des signaux de gradients de gravité enregistrés pour révéler les gradients de gravité dus aux masses souterraines, par exemple.
