A system and method for online reverse auctions includes posting an offer to buy on a web-based host server interface. Sellers post offer-responses. The offer- responses are published to enable the sellers to bid down against each other to create a reverse auction. Buyers and sellers (users) have contact information and user ID's. The system includes a database for storing the user contact information and user ID's. The system includes an anonymous e-mail server in communication with the database via the host to anonymously forward communications between users. The system also includes a negotiation room server in communication with the host and the database to filter user contact information and enable anonymous chat between users.
