A method of providing directory assistance from an information provider is provided, comprising: obtaining an utterance including a request for an entity from a requestor; passing said utterance through an automated speech recognition system to determine a phone number for said entity; determining if said entity is a subscriber to the information provider; and if said entity is a subscriber, providing said phone number to said requestor and connecting said requestor to said entity; and if said entity is not a subscriber, providing said phone number to said requestor and offering to connect said requestor to a subscriber.

La présente invention se rapporte à un procédé permettant d'offrir une assistance-annuaire par l'intermédiaire d'un fournisseur d'informations. Le procédé selon l'invention consiste: à obtenir d'un demandeur un énoncé contenant une demande liée à une entité ; à faire passer ledit énoncé dans un système de reconnaissance vocale automatisé, afin de déterminer un numéro de téléphone pour ladite entité ; à déterminer si ladite entité est un abonné du fournisseur d'informations ; et, si ladite entité est un abonné, à fournir ledit numéro de téléphone au demandeur, et à connecter ledit demandeur avec ladite entité ; et, si l'entité n'est pas un abonné, à fournir ledit numéro de téléphone audit demandeur et à proposer de connecter ledit demandeur avec un abonné.
