A method and system for recharging the battery of an electric vehicle using the power converter used to supply current to the motors is described herein. The method generally involves the connection of the output of the converter of the vehicle to a conventional electric outlet and the configuration of the converter to act as if the vehicle is braking, to thereby use the built-in regenerative braking feature of the converter. Another aspect of the present invention is concerned with the production of alternating current with an electric vehicle by disconnecting the converter from the electric motor and by configuring the converter to generate current at a given frequency. Another aspect of the present invention is concerned with power factor correcting.
