A system and process for treating dust and sludge from iron and steel making operations and includes separating iron and carbon from zinc and lead. Separation is performed in a series of hydrocyclones associated in a series- parallel fashion. The iron and carbon is recycled within the iron making operation without detriment to furnace liners. Lime and flocculent are added to the lead and zinc to create a stable material suitable for landfill disposal. Sludges are consumed by injection onto a sinter strand.

L'invention concerne un système et un procédé pour traiter la poussière et les boues provenant d'opérations de production de fer et d'acier, consistant à séparer le fer et le carbone du zinc et du plomb. La séparation se fait dans une série d'hydrocyclones associés en un agencement en série/en parallèle. Le fer et le carbone sont recyclés dans l'operátion de fabrication de fer, sans que cela n'ait d'effets néfastes sur les revêtements des fours. On ajoute de la chaux et un agent floculant au plomb et au zinc pour former un matériau stable se prêtant à l'enfouissement.
