A system and method of moving information units from a network processor toward a data transmission network in a prioritized sequence which accommodates several different levels of service. The present invention includes a method and system for scheduling the egress of processed information units (or frames) from a network processing unit according to stored priorities associated with the various sources of the information units. The priorities in the preferred embodiment include a low latency service, a minimum bandwidth, a weighted fair queueing and a system for preventing a user from continuing to exceed his service levels over an extended period. The present invention includes a plurality of calendars with different service rates to allow a user to select the service rate which he desires. If a customer has chosen a high bandwidth for service, the customer will be included in a calendar which is serviced more often than if the customer has chosen a lower bandwidth.
La présente invention concerne un système et un procédé permettant de déplacer des unités d'information d'un processeur de réseau vers un réseau de transmission de données dans une séquence de priorité comprenant différents niveaux de service. L'invention se rapporte à un procédé et un système permettant de programmer la sortie d'unités (ou trames) d'informations traitées en provenance d'une unité de traitement de réseau conformément à des priorités mises en mémoire associées aux différentes sources des unités d'information. Dans le mode de réalisation préféré, les priorités comprennent un service à faible temps d'attente, une largeur de bande minimale, une gestion équitable pondérée des files et un système permettant d'empêcher un utilisateur de dépasser ses niveaux de service sur une période prolongée. L'invention comprend une pluralité d'agendas comportant différentes vitesses de service, qui permettent à un utilisateur de choisir la vitesse de service désirée. Un utilisateur qui a choisi une grande largeur de bande pour un service sera inclus dans un agenda de service plus fréquent que le client qui a choisi une largeur de bande plus petite.
