A method for the thermal management of a fuel cell, which method comprises: processing a fuel supply stream comprising hydrogen, steam, at least one carbon oxide and optionally methane using a methanator to produce a fuel cell supply stream comprising a controlled concentration of methane; and reforming within the fuel cell methane present in the fuel cell supply stream, wherein the way in which the methanator is operated is adjusted in response to fluctuations in the temperature of the fuel cell such that the concentration of methane in the fuel cell supply stream is controlled in order to achieve a desired level of reforming of methane within the fuel cell.
L'invention concerne un procédé de traitement thermique d'une pile à combustible, qui consiste à: utiliser un appareil de méthanation pour traiter un flux d'alimentation en combustible contenant de l'hydrogène, de la vapeur, au moins un oxyde de carbone et, éventuellement, du méthane, afin de produire un flux d'alimentation en combustible comprenant une concentration régulée de méthane; et à reformer, dans la pile à combustible, le méthane présent dans le flux d'alimentation en combustible. Le fonctionnement de l'appareil de méthanation est réglé en fonction des variations de la température de la pile à combustible, de sorte que la concentration du méthane dans le flux d'alimentation en combustible soit régulée afin d'obtenir un niveau désiré de reformage du méthane dans la pile à combustible.
