The system includes a first data channel (42) established between the mobile communication unit (44) and a wireless communication system (40). The first data channel (42) is configured to receive data communication. A second data channel is established between the wireless communication system (40) and another communication system (68). The second data channel is configured to receive data communication. An interworking unit (56) is responsive to the first data channel (42) and the second data channel. The interworking unit (56) receives the data communication from the second data channel and queues the data communication when the first data channel (42) cannot receive the data communication.
