An apparatus and method for upsetting an end of a hollow workpiece to increase the wall thickness of that end is taught. A mandrel is inserted into the workpiece within a clamp which holds the workpiece. A die is urged into contact with the end of the workpiece to compress the end, decreasing its length and increasing the wall thickness of the end while the mandrel and clamp prevent deformation of the workpiece held in the clamp.
La présente invention concerne un appareil et un procédé pour refouler une extrémité d'une pièce à usiner creuse et augmenter ainsi l'épaisseur de paroi de ladite extrémité. Un mandrin est inséré dans la pièce à usiner placée dans un serre-joint qui la maintient en place. Un emporte-pièce est forcé au contact de l'extrémité de la pièce à usiner pour la comprimer, diminuant sa longueur et augmentant l'épaisseur de paroi de l'extrémité tandis que le mandrin et le serre-joint empêchent la déformation de la pièce à usiner dans le serre-joint.
