Neighbor cell hearability can be improved by includ-ing an additional reference signal that can be detected at a low sensi-tivity and a low signal-to-noise ratio, by introducing non-unity fre-quency reuse for the signals used for a time difference of arrival (TDOA) measurement, e.g., orthogonality of signals transmitted from the serving cell sites and the various neighbor cell sites. The new ref-erence signal, called the TDOA-RS, is proposed to improve the hearability of neighbor cells in a cellular network that deploys 3GPP EU--TRAN (LTE) system, and the TDOA-RS can be transmitted in any resource blocks (RB) for POSCH and/or MBSFN subframe, regard-less of whether the latter is on a carrier supporting both PMCH and POSCH or not. Besides the additional TDOA-RS reference signal, an additional synchronization signal (TDOA-sync) may also be included to improve the hearability of neighbor cells.

L'audibilité de cellules voisines peut être améliorée en incluant un signal de référence additionnel qui peut être détecté à un faible niveau de sensibilité et à un faible rapport signal/bruit, en introduisant une réutilisation de la fréquence non unitaire pour les signaux, utilisée pour mesurer une différence de temps d'arrivée (TDOA), par exemple l'orthogonalité des signaux transmis par les sites cellulaires serveurs et les divers sites cellulaires voisins. Le nouveau signal de référence, appelé TDOA-RS, est destiné à améliorer l'audibilité de cellules voisines dans un réseau cellulaire qui utilise le système 3GPP EUTRAN (LTE), et le signal TDOA-RS peut être transmis dans tout bloc de ressources (RB) pour la sous-trame POSCH et/ou MBSFN, que cette dernière soit ou non sur une porteuse supportant à la fois PMCH et POSCH. Outre le signal de référence additionnel TDOA-RS, il est également possible d'introduire un signal de synchronisation additionnel (TDOA-sync) pour améliorer l'audibilité de cellules voisines.
