A method and system is provided for controlling data transfer using a short data burst mechanism between a mobile station (MS) and a base station (BS). After identifying that a short data burst mechanism is desired to be used for transmitting data between the MS and the BS, the data is transmitted over a common channel used for communication between the MS and the BS without having to establish a communcation link between the MS and the BS over a traffic channel.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un système de commande de transfert de données au moyen d'un mécanisme de paquet de données court entre une station mobile (MS) et une station de base (BS). Après avoir identifier que le mécanisme de paquet de données court est nécessaire à la transmission de données entre la MS et la BS, les données sont transmises via un canal commun destiné à la communication entre la MS et la BS sans avoir à établir une liaison de communication entre la MS et la BS via un canal de trafic.
