A washing system for use in cleaning or washing a soiled substrate or substrates, the system comprising: a. a washing zone for contacting the soiled substrate with wash liquor; b. a feed supply for providing hot or cold feed water to the washing zone; c. a water-softening zone intermediate the feed supply and washing zone and in fluid communication therewith; d. an effluent storage and/or discharge zone; and e. a product dispensing zone intermediate the water softening zone and washing zone; and wherein the water-softening zone is effective to soften the water to a residual Ca2+ hardness of 1mmol/L or less with a soft water flux of at least about 2 L/h, preferably at least about 10 L/h at a feed water pressure in the range from about 100 to about 1000 kP (1-10 bar). The water-softening zone is preferably a nanofiltration device having a cut-off in the range from about 100 to about 1000 Daltons, a clean water flux of at least 3 L/m2.h.100kp (RO water at 25~C), and a magnesium ion rejection of at least 50%. The washing system is preferably used for washing laundry.

Un système de lavage à utiliser pour nettoyer ou laver un ou plusieurs substrats souillés, le système étant composé de : a. une zone de lavage pour mettre en contact le substrat souillé avec le liquide de lavage ; b. une alimentation pour fournir de l'eau chaude ou froide sur la zone de lavage ; c. une zone d'adoucissement de l'eau fait l'intermédiaire entre l'alimentation et la zone de lavage et dans la communication de fluide ; d. une zone de stockage et/ou de déchargement des effluents ; e. une zone dispensant le produit fait l'intermédiaire entre la zone d'adoucissement de l'eau et la zone de lavage ; la zone d'adoucissement de l'eau est efficace pour adoucir l'eau à une dureté résiduelle de Ca?2+¿ de 1 mmol/L ou moins avec un flux d'eau douce d'au moins 2 L/h environ, de préférence au moins environ 10 L/h à une pression d'eau d'alimentation dans la plage allant d'environ 100 à environ 1000 kP (1 à 10 bars). La zone d'adoucissement de l'eau est, de préférence, un dispositif de nanofiltration ayant une coupure dans la plage d'environ 100 à environ 1000 Daltons, un flux d'eau propre d'au moins 3 L/m?2¿.h.100kp (eau RO à 25·C) et un rejet d'ions de magnésium d'au moins 50%. Le système de lavage est utilisé de préférence pour laver le linge.
