ABSTRACT In the finishing of paper or board, web from a web- producing machine is reeled onto respective reeling drums. Loaded reels are then transferred from the reeling position to an unwind position by apparatus including a first rail arrangement; and the resulting empty reeling drums are then transferred from the unwind position back to the reeling position by apparatus including a second rail arrangement that is generally parallel to the first rail arrangement. The foregoing steps are automatically controlled in a manner such that, upon completion of a preceding step in the transfer of a reeling drum, the next transfer step occurs automatically, without manual starting.
