A method and system (Figs. 34 and lA) in which a section of a previously encoded digital bit stream (Fig. 33A) is replaced with another section of encoded video (Fig. 33D). In order to remove a section of encoded video, it is necessary to determine the beginning and ending points of the encoded video in the digitally encoded bit stream (Fig. 33A). The addresses of the beginning and ending points are calculated by summing the bits consumed by each picture, the number of bits of the sequence header of each picture, the number of bits of each Group of Pictures (GOP) header and all stuff bits. In order to encode the video which is to be inserted in place of the removed video, a process is performed which prevents decoding artifacts from appearing (Fig. 34). This is accomplished by determining a last P-picture before the edit point and using it as a reference frame for frames after the edit point (786). Additionally, a short period of the original video encoded using its original quantizer values is included at the end of the video to be substituted (784).
Procédé et système (figures 34 et 1A) dans lesquels une section d'un train binaire numérique (figure 33A) préalablement codé est remplacé par une autre section vidéo codée (figure 33D). Il est nécessaire, afin de supprimer une section vidéo codée, de déterminer les points de début et de fin de la vidéo codée dans le train binaire (figure 33A) codé numériquement. On calcule les adresses des points de début et de fin par addition des bits consommés par chaque image, du nombre de bits de l'en-tête de séquence de chaque image, du nombre de bits de chaque groupe d'images (GOP) et de la totalité des bits de bourrage. On met en application un procédé empêchant l'apparition d'artefacts de décodage (figure 34), afin de coder la section vidéo à insérer à la place de la section supprimée. Ceci s'effectue par détermination d'une dernière image P avant le point d'insertion et par utilisation de cette image en tant qu'image de référence pour les images suivant le point d'insertion (786). De plus, une courte période de la section vidéo originale codée au moyen de ses valeurs originales de quantificateur est comprise à la fin de la section vidéo à substituer (784).
